Finding Market Opportunities That Matter. Workshop 11 February 2025.

This workshop is open to ÃûæÂÖ±²¥ academics, anyone employed by the University, and doctoral students and researchers working on IP which is owned by the University.

Designed around Lean Startup methodology, this workshop will introduce ÃûæÂÖ±²¥ researchers to tools and techniques to help them identify, evaluate and prioritise commercial opportunities for their research.

This interactive hands-on workshop will allow researchers to develop the skills to support informed decision-making, provide a shared language with stakeholders, and set a strategic focus which offers guidance over time.

CFP - Push/Pull: Thresholds in Art and Architectural History. Deadline 12 February 2025.

Inspired by the proposition that researchers can deepen and broaden the scope of their work through intentionality, early career scholars from the Department of the History of Art and Architecture at Trinity College Dublin invite participants to a one-day symposium on the 7th of March 2025 at the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland.

The symposium’s aim is to cultivate conversation by connecting early career scholars to share ideas, practices, and challenges through the launch of a new early career researchers’ forum. The event will begin with a collaborative ‘Seedlings Workshop’ for scholars to develop initial ideas and seek peer-to-peer feedback on works in progress. The morning workshop will be followed by a series of afternoon paper sessions open to the public. 

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition - Express your interest by 17 February 2025.

3MT is an academic competition that challenges postgraduate researchers to deliver a compelling presentation on their research topic and its significance in just three minutes. 

Participants at Sussex compete for a chance to win £500 towards research and a place in the Vitae UK semi-finals. There are also prizes of £250 for the runner-up and People's Choice. Entrants are supported with training and a peer practice session to help hone those presenting skills. The final will take place on campus in mid-June as part of the Summer of Research.

How it works:

Participants will compete in the Faculty heat in mid-March (exact date TBC), with the winner advancing to represent the Faculty of Media, Arts and Humanities at the ÃûæÂÖ±²¥ 3MT Final in June 2025. Finalists will present their research live on stage to a broad University audience, with the chance to win valuable prize money and advance to the UK national semi-finals!

CNCS PG Conference 2025 'Institutions in the Nineteenth Century and Beyond' - Call for Papers. Deadline 3 March 2025.

The Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies (CNCS) at Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, and Teesside Universities is pleased to announce its annual Postgraduate Conference, to be held in person at Durham University on Wednesday, 7 May 2025. Postgraduates from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for a 15-minute paper.  

CNCS invites papers that consider ‘institutions’ in the long nineteenth century, especially from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The Adam Weiler PGR Impact Award. Deadline 3 March 2025.

The Adam Weiler Impact Award is available to exceptional researchers currently registered for a postgraduate research degree at Sussex who demonstrate the potential to achieve outstanding impact in their field. 

The annual award is offered as the result of a generous donation to the University in memory of Adam Weiler, a former student at Sussex. 

Four prizes of £1000 are on offer, with categories for each of the three disciplines plus clinical projects. Postgraduate researchers (PGRs) must be nominated by their supervisor or School's Director for PGRs, and the prize money must be put towards the recipient's research.

The Research Centre for Visual Poetics at the University of Antwerp is looking for a post-doctoral candidate with expertise relating to the topics of adaptation, canonisation and/or cultural memory in film, theatre, dance, and other media.

Media, Arts and Humanities PGR Fund

The Faculty of Media, Arts and Humanities has a small budget to help postgraduate researchers with funding research costs. The purpose of the fund is to fund key activities in line with the Faculty’s PGR strategy and to support PGRs with funding individual research costs. The maximum amount of funding which a MAH PGR can apply for over the course of the financial year (1st August - 31st July) is £200.   

 

To request funding please complete the  and send the completed form to MAH-pgr@sussex.ac.uk. We aim to confirm funding within two weeks of the application being submitted. 

Sussex Fund Doctoral Overseas Conference Grants

Sussex Fund Doctoral Overseas Conference Grants support ÃûæÂÖ±²¥ PGRs who are presenting their work at an overseas conference.  You can apply for a maximum of £1,100 during the period of your PhD registration, and can apply more than once up to the funding limit. From November 2022, an additional £100 above the £1,100 maximum will be available to go towards visa costs, where you require a visa to travel.

The scheme is administered by the Researcher Development team within the Sussex Researcher School, who are able to offer this scheme thanks to a generous grant from the . To apply, please complete the . Applications must be submitted at least four weeks before the conference start date.
