60 credits, Level 6

All year

On this module, you'll undertake a 100-day placement, developing your professional judgement and practice skills under supervision. You'll gain experience in direct practice with service users and carers, working with complex casework while applying social work law, theory and research.

During the placement, you'll:

  • develop communication skills through direct practice
  • work with more complex cases, including risk assessment and intervention
  • practise in a different setting with a new service user or carer group
  • apply evidence-based intervention methods
  • adhere to professional standards and codes of conduct
  • demonstrate capabilities in line with the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF).

By the end of the placement, you'll have the knowledge, skills and values to work with diverse user groups, handle complex situations and practise with greater autonomy while seeking appropriate supervision. Placement hosts will provide relevant learning experiences to prepare you for professional practice.
